Biography
This is a nearly complete compendium of all my published work, featuring almost 600 entries. For a more select view of my highlights, please visit my LinkedIn which has some of favourite work in the experience section. I've had a passion for sports journalism ever since I reported on my primary school football team aged 7 - as a sports lover growing up spending a career revolving around that passion just felt the obvious career to aspire to, and 15 years later that's still not changed. In 2015 I won a Wasps Young Journalist competition which re-ignited my search for a route into the industry, and a few years later during in sixth form I secured a string of comms/PR work experience placements. After finishing school as a multi-award-winning editor of the Wheatleyan and with successful A-level results, I took up a place on the Journalism Studies course at the University of Sheffield. Ahead of starting in Sheffield I completed further placements on the sports desks of the Daily Telegraph and Express & Star, having work published in both, and added to my event experience by spending time with the media teams of New Zealand Cricket, the Tour of Britain and NFL UK. Alongside my first year of university I also started regular part-time work as assistant rugby reporter for CoventryLive/Coventry Telegraph. Across three seasons there I covered weekly press conferences both in person and virtually, and matchdays through live blogging, reporting and writing player ratings, eventually covering games solo. I also co-founded the Winging It F1 podcast in 2020 alongside two coursemates, which is still going strong three years and almost 200 episodes later. I created the name and logo, and since July 2022 I've also been the main episode editor. After a tough first year of the course personally, I approached second year re-invigorated and enjoyed getting to grips with the hands-on nature of the course, excelling in radio and online newsdays and showing a marked improvement in my feature writing over the year. I also achieved NCTJ gold-standard qualifications in essential journalism, media law & court reporting. Just as significant was my decision to study abroad at the University of Oklahoma the following year. I spent an incredible year in Oklahoma and made the most of every opportunity available. Arriving with minimal TV experience I took on a range of roles with OU Nightly either side of the camera and in the TV studio, was sideline reporter for a variety of sports and was Chief Cinematographer for the award-winning documentary The Real Black Sabbath. As a journalist, I reported on international students experiencing their first tornado, and the scheduled execution of Julius Jones - one of the biggest stories in the US in 2021. Upon returning to England in June 2022, I began working for Total-Motorsport.com as an F1 reporter, and nearing the end of the 2023 season I've written over 500 articles for the site. That's included news, analysis, features and exclusive interviews, and I attended the 2023 British Grand Prix as a journalist fulfilling a lifelong dream to report from a race. Alongside that plus working as a newswriter for MARCA English, where I wrote a range of sports, news and SEO articles, I finished my final year at the University of Sheffield and graduated with a First-Class degree. All my experience in Sheffield, Oklahoma and beyond culminated in my dissertation-level project, a special investigative report on the future of English domestic rugby after the demise of Wasps, Worcester Warriors and London Irish, which was graded First-Class. In the other year-long assessment, I worked on a fan-focussed football magazine called The Concourse with my coursemates, which also received a first. We created the brand from scratch and I was one of the project leaders helping guide our content direction in all areas. I wrote several features for the magazine, and was one of two lead designers for the print edition, becoming proficient in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Since graduating I've stepped up my work with Total Motorsport, and started working part-time for Eurosport and TNT Sports as a live-blogger. I've covered football, rugby, speedway, mountain biking and snooker so far, and I'm set to start working news shifts for them in November to further my freelance experience.
