Dr. Aqsa Shaikh (She/Her) is an out and proud trans woman. She is one of India’s First Transgender Doctors. She is an Associate professor of Community Medicine, and Nodal Officer for Covid Vaccination Centre, Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Jamia Hamdard, Delhi. Aqsa is an academician and researcher. She is part of the iHEAR initiative at Sangath India, which undertakes research and project implementation to include the Transgender and Disability community in the healthcare sector. She is also part of Communi-T initiative which looks at the empowerment of Transgender persons. Founder Director of Human Solidarity Foundation, Aqsa is a vocal advocate for rights-based Gender Justice for Transgender persons, Persons with Disability, and Persons with Mental Illnesses. Aqsa has been the recipient of Youth ki Awaaz for Mental Health. She speaks, writes, and advocates for Trans Rights in India and Globally. Aqsa successfully petitioned the Delhi Commission for the protection of child rights to pass orders on banning unnecessary sex normalizing surgeries on intersex children. She also serves as Section Editor of PLOS Global Public Health. Born and brought up in Mumbai, she completed her education at Seth GS Medical College. She is a Proud Transgender Woman and works on LGBTQIA+ rights, Rights of Persons with Disability, and Mental Health. She is interested in Medical Ethics, Humanities, and Medical Education Technology.
