Biography

Barbara Barrett is managing editor of Stateline, an independent news organization within the Pew Charitable Trusts covering trends and challenges affecting state policy across the country Previously she was the a national editor for McClatchy, supervising correspondents who cover Washington for the chain's 29 newspapers. She came to Washington in 2006 and previously served as the regional correspondent for the Charlotte Observer and The News & Observer of Raleigh, N.C. She has been a reporter and editor at The N&O, the St. Petersburg Times, the York Daily Record and the Battle Creek Enquirer. She won the Washington Press Foundation's David Lynch Award for regional reporting in 2011. In the past, she's won an Associated Press Managing Editors Association award for her work on returning war veterans and was on the team that was a Pulitzer finalist for coverage of Hurricane Floyd in 1999. She has won awards for investigative, feature and sports writing, and is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
