Jewish Book Council

Jewish Book Council, founded in 1943, is the longest-running organization devoted exclusively to the support and celebration of Jewish literature. Inaugurated in 1950, the National Jewish Book Awards is the longest-running North American awards program of its kind and is recognized as the most prestigious. The Awards are intended to recognize authors, and encourage reading, of outstanding English-language books of Jewish interest. Through the JBC Network and Read On programs, Jewish Book Council coordinates over 1,100 literary events each year across North America. For authors, this is an opportunity to introduce their Jewish-interest books to communities across the country and beyond. For program directors, this is a chance to access a wide selection of Jewish-interest authors for book fairs, festivals, and cultural events. Paper Brigade, JBC's annual literary journal, is named in honor of the group of writers and intellectuals in the Vilna Ghetto who rescued thousands of Jewish books and documents from destruction by the Nazis. The publication reflects today's diverse Jewish literary landscape in America and abroad. Paper Brigade was a finalist for CLMP's 2018 Firecracker Award for Best Debut Magazine. On Paper Brigade Daily, JBC publishes essays, interviews, reading lists, and more online each week. JBC Book Clubs provides resources and support to book clubs reading books of Jewish interest. Find your next book club read or enhance your book club discussion with book reviews, discussion questions, annual reading guides, virtual meet ups with members of other book clubs, thematic reading lists, and more.
