Biography
I hate flying, but I love on-the-ground reporting — so I spend plenty of time in the air. My journalistic travels have taken me to all 50 states and 15 countries. I’ve filed thousands of stories for The Oklahoman (1993-2002), The Associated Press (2002-2005) and The Christian Chronicle (2005-present), where I serve as editor-in-chief. Based in Oklahoma City, I also write the national Weekend Plug-In column — featuring analysis, fact checking and top headlines from the world of faith — for ReligionUnplugged.com. Besides my regular gigs, I freelance for national media ranging from AP to Christianity Today to the Washington Post. My byline has appeared everywhere from the Paris-based international wire service Agence France-Presse to the front page of the Los Angeles Times to the homepage of USA Today. And talk about burying the lede: I’m crazy in love with my wife, Tamie, and a super-proud father and grandfather. Besides my family, I’m passionate about my faith, Texas Rangers baseball and country music (the classic kind).
