Biography

From high-level newsmakers and entertainers to elected officials, community activists, and powerful human-interest principles, Brandi Kellam has bought a variety of influencers and voices to the screen as a booking producer for MSNBC. In addition to her television role, Brandi also contributes to NBCNews.com as a writer and producer for its pop culture section as well as two of its online verticals: NBCBLK and NBC Latino. In June 2016, Brandi reported live from the BET Awards red carpet via Periscope and in the same weekend covered VIDCON for MSNBC.com, the world’s largest online video conference. Brandi’s work as a journalist has helped raise awareness on issues such as civil and human rights, criminal justice, childhood hunger and poverty. She has coordinated bookings for various network partnerships and initiatives including confirming Kweku Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela, for an interview to discuss the fight to reduce global poverty as part of MSNBC’s 2014 coverage of the Global Citizen Festival music concert in Central Park. Her roster of guest bookings include, but is not limited to: an exclusive appearance of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange; special guest segments with actor and producer Tony Goldwyn and music moguls Cher and Aretha Franklin; as well as experts in various fields including Pulitzer prize winning journalists, world renowned thought leaders, and senior White House officials. In January 2016, Brandi spearheaded the launch of NBCUniversal’s newest employee resource group, the Young Professionals Network (YPN) – a cross-platform business unit that she created the building blocks for while a production assistant at MSNBC four years prior. As YPN’s founding co-hub leader, Brandi oversees the execution of its overarching mission to cultivate, enhance, and engage millennial employees of the New York/New Jersey chapter as well as exploring partnership opportunities with NBCU properties and creating national branding initiatives. Brandi has been a panelist, giving career and industry advice via platforms including the National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ), Women’s Media Center and Syracuse University. She holds a Master of Science degree in broadcast and digital Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She also received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
