Biography
Brenda C. Siler, Journalist and Public Relations Strategist Brenda Siler is a journalist and public relations strategist. She began her journalism work in college in radio news and public affairs programming. Currently, Siler is a contributing writer for the Washington Informer, the oldest Black and female-owned newspaper in Washington, DC. She writes about STEM, higher education, technology, arts and entertainment, plus food and dining. Siler also has written articles and chapters in public relations industry trade publications including PRNews, Ragan Report, and Inside Organizational Communications. As an organizational public relations strategist, Siler is an award-winning leader who has headed national, regional, and local integrated marketing/branding/communications programs. She recently completed an assignment for the U.S. Census Bureau managing media relations and partnership recruitment for the 2020 Census with a focus on African American and Black audiences. Other organizations where Siler has led communications programs include AARP, the Council on Competitiveness, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the American Red Cross, United Way, and UNCF-the United Negro College Fund. At UNCF, she managed the rebranding for America’s largest minority scholarship fund retaining its iconic tagline “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Siler was the “first person of color” to serve as chairperson of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), an association for organizational communicators with 15,000-members from 80 countries. She led a 25-member international executive board and a six-member executive committee. In June 2017, Siler was inducted as an IABC Fellow recognizing the highest level of career achievement. Siler, a native Washingtonian is an alumna of Spelman College and currently resides in Silver Spring, Maryland.
