Biography
Brent Brown has worked in illustration and graphic design for nearly 40 years. He is adept at many computer software programs on all Apple products, starting with his first computer, the Mac SE in 1990, continuing to his current 1Pad Pro 12.8" and Apple Pencil combo. He started out drawing caricatures of his high school teachers for $2 each, and was commissioned to draw the entire school board in 1982 for $100. He still draws caricatures in-person at events, the only thing he does non-digitally still. A graduate of the Visual Communications degree program of the Art Institute of Atlanta, he has worked with many companies as both a staff employee and a free-lancer, including marketing agencies (Visual Imagry, Inc., Miller & Miller Adverstising; Springer Marketing); print media (Blue Ridge Business, Rapid River Magazine, The Mountain Xpress, Asheville Citizen-Times, MAD Magazine); and television (WLOS-TV Asheville). He has been drawing caricatures for as many years at festivals (Apple Festival, Bele Chere); local pop culture conventions (GeekOut, Asheville Comic Expo); universities (WCU, ASU, Mars Hill College, Carson-Newman College); as well as private parties, conventions, trade shows and other events for companies including The Grove Park Inn; Young Convention Services; Bravo Events; Taylor Ranch, The Tryon Fine Arts Council, Henderson County Recreation Dept., Harrah’s Casinos and Laurel Ridge Country Club and The Biltmore Estate. His commissioned caricature work has been purchased by individuals, groups and companies like WLOS-TV, and restaurants like Frankie Bones for their employees, clients and customers. His weekly local comic strip, “Land of This Guy” has been published by the local alt-weekly paper, The Mountain Xpress, in Asheville from 2007-to the present day. He has illustrated many book covers and children’s book interior pages, as well as e-book illustrations and covers.

Mountain Xpress
Mountain Xpress is the keen-eyed, eloquent voice of the Asheville metro area (pop. 225,000) and surrounding southern Appalachian counties, providing an indispensable guide for residents and visitors alike. We focus on local politics, civic issues and the area's vibrant arts-and-entertainment scene -- reporting the news with a magazine flair. Our opinion section offers a popular forum for the debate of local issues, thanks in large part to the lively submissions of our readers, who constitute a diverse blend of the region's most active and independent-minded residents. We also publish the area's most comprehensive calendar --- a one-stop guide to what's happening in the region. While the bulk of our readers are 25-to-49 years old, Mountain Xpress is read by a diverse audience that includes a 21 percent readership over age 60. Our readers are, primarily, active professionals who enjoy a greater-than-average amount of leisure time. The paper's editorial goal is to provide a forum for debate and to help citizens of all political persuasions play an active part in the community.
