Biography
I've been a journalist since October 1 1984, when I joined the Financial Times Group from Midland Bank International Division, after just over five years as an aspiring banker. I learnt my trade as deputy editor of the Financial Times Euromarket Letter, which covered international financial markets including syndicated loans, bonds, private placements and just about any form of money raising you might think of. I had special responsibility for covering the Latin American debt rescheduling crisis of the time. I went freelance on January 22 1993, after a three-month stint on the Financial Times daily newspaper, writing the daily international bond column and other news and features articles. I have written about a broad range of subjects in my freelance life and in my spare time in 2002 wrote the history of my home town football club, Airdrieonians FC. I remain active and open to offers of new work. In the spring of 2020 the President of the Downhill Only Club ski club in Wengen, in the Swiss Alps, asked if I would become editor of the club's annual publication, the DHO Journal, and I agreed. I am now gearing up to start work on the fifth edition under my stewardship.
