As a writer, I cover topics that jump out and grab my attention. I only write stories that engage me personally. So, as a mom, I love writing an annual series of stories about the mothers of professional basketball players during the NBA playoffs. As a woman, I love to write about the fascinating and peculiar journey of femininity. As a wife, I love writing about the ups and downs of marriage in my weekly newspaper column in The Daily Memphian. As a Christian, I love writing stories about how nature and civilization point us to God. As a traveler, I love writing about the 40+ countries I have visited and the people I meet in those places. As a Southerner, I love writing about the nuanced eccentricities of the place I call home. As a poet, I love to write words that I have played with.
