Biography

Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC (formerly QC) is an international human rights lawyer, activist and writer. She is an expert on journalists' safety, arbitrary detention and children's rights. She has acted for, and secured the release of, many journalists, human rights defenders, peaceful protestors, lawyers and anti-corruption activists unlawfully imprisoned by authoritarian states. She is Ireland's Special Rapporteur on Child Protection, a Commissioner of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, and she sits part-time as a Coroner in England and Wales. In 2024 she was awarded the President of Ireland's Distinguished Service Award.
