Here's a story for you: Once, a newbie journalist landed a freelance gig with a major international publication. That journalist then (foolishly) believed that this meant they could quit their full-time journalism job at a small, independently owned paper in Wareham, Massachusetts. They learned the hard way that this was a foolish decision indeed — but, fortunately, the stars aligned in this journalist's favour. Almost 10 years' worth of freelancing later, I am not doing the kind of journalism I have always wanted to do: investigative work peppered with a healthy dose of photojournalism to feed my artsy side. As a freelance journalist, I've won several awards for my work, beating out several big-name media outlets, including The Seattle Times and KUOW, our local NPR station. I have written for international, national, and local publications, including Vice, The Business Journals, and Al Jazeera English. I currently write about police and government accountability for the South Seattle Emerald, but am open to writing about anything and everything, from business and fintech to food and culture.
