Biography

Collins Odigie Ojiehanor is a highly motivated and certified communicator, having a distinguished career in journalism with a wealth of experience and a proven track record. Holding a Bachelor of Arts (B.A Hons) in Mass Communication from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo, Collins began his journey in campus journalism at Adekunle Ajasin University, where he served as a member of Sparkle Media. His dedication and talent quickly propelled him to the position of Assistant News Editor in 2017, followed by Features Editor and Production Manager in 2018. Collins also contributed significantly as an editor for NAMACOS Editorial and as a member of FASA Press Council during this period. In a hands-on experience, Collins embarked on an internship program with Speed FM 96.9 Benin from August 2018 to March 2019. Here, he distinguished himself as a Pidgin English news reporter, covering breaking news, local and international events, and providing live reports. His ability to transcribe English stories into Pidgin English further showcased his linguistic skills and journalistic acumen. Continuing his ascent in the field of journalism, Collins assumed the role of General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Campus Journalists, Adekunle Ajasin University Chapter in 2019. In this capacity, he led the collection of stories for the Union's bulletin and mentored new members in creative and feature writing. His exceptional leadership was recognized with the Most Outstanding Campus Journalism Award 2019 in Ogun State. Post-graduation, Collins joined Campus Reporter Africa in 2020, contributing insightful coverage of the Edo and Ondo state 2020 governorship elections. Concurrently, same year he served as a freelance journalist at Speed FM, where he established and managed the Business and Technology News Desk, trained interns in Pidgin English news writing, and produced radio jingles. His dedication to journalistic excellence while in Taraba state for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in September 2021, he worked as a news reporter at Rock FM 92.3 Jalingo, co-presenting the popular Pidgin English program "The Matter" while engaging in discussions on current affairs, health, and environmental protection. Additionally, Collins served as Communications Manager at Damadex Print Media, demonstrating his proficiency in developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies. Upon completion of his NYSC in 2022, Collins was employed as a Pidgin English News Editor/Reporter at Speed FM 96.9 Benin, Edo State, where he played a pivotal role in covering the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections. As a freelance journalist, Collins's commitment to growth and excellence is evident in his diverse portfolio of published works across various media platforms. His passion for storytelling and dedication to uncovering compelling narratives have established him as a dynamic journalist, communicator, and community advocate. Collins continues to hone his skills through training and certifications, embodying the essence of journalism as a conduit for truth and understanding. Beyond journalism, Collins is passionate about advocating for Girl Child Rights, Personal Development and Community Service.
