Company Info

New York Amsterdam News

The New York Amsterdam News is a historic Black-owned weekly newspaper, founded in 1909 by James H. Anderson. It began as a four-page publication sold for two cents in Manhattan and has grown to become one of the most influential African American publications in the United States. The newspaper serves as a vital voice for Black communities, covering topics such as civil rights, social justice, and cultural milestones. Headquartered in Harlem since the early 1940s, the Amsterdam News publishes weekly print and digital editions that address politics, culture, and community affairs. It has a rich legacy of amplifying prominent figures and documenting significant events in history. The newspaper also maintains extensive historical archives, accessible through partnerships with institutions like the New York Public Library. Recently, the Amsterdam News Educational Foundation initiated the “Save This Harlem Treasure” campaign to transform its headquarters into a museum, celebrating the history of the Black press.
