Biography

Danny is a veterinary surgeon who is passionate about engaging with animal owners and the public regarding science and veterinary issues. He has over 22k followers on Instagram. Danny has a regular spot answering callers’ vet questions on BBC Radio Devon. He can write knowledgeably for a lay and expert audience about topical animal issues. To this end he has written several articles for New Scientist and Veterinary Times and has discussed these issues on: BBC Victoria Derbyshire Programme (see video clip) BBC Radio 4's Today Programme BBC Radio 4's Farming Today Danny has campaigned to highlight the severe health problems associated with flat-faced dogs, such as pugs and French bulldogs, which are ever growing in popularity. He has led a campaign to highlight the potential suffering caused by the use of certain alternative medicines, such as homeopathy, in an attempt to treat sick animals. Danny has published papers in the scientific journal Veterinary Record. He is also passionate about One Health - the role that vets play in improving human health and wellbeing. As a project manager he has designed and implemented a livestock improvement programme in Iraq to improve food security, worked with rabies eradication projects in street dogs in India to prevent transmission of the virus to humans, and volunteered with charities treating working horses in poor communities.
