Biography
David Landis is a freelance writer for the San Francisco Bay Times and a member of the Bay Area Travel Writers association. His regular twice-monthly column, The Gay Gourmet, profiles iconic San Francisco Bay Area, California and worldwide restaurants, food, chefs, recipes, consumer food products, wine/spirits, travel, hospitality, hotels, entertainment and more with an LGBT lens. A foodie since day one, David has honed his skills in restaurants throughout California, the United States and worldwide. Mr. Landis is the recipient of a San Francisco Press Club Journalism award for feature writing. In addition, David also has been an annual judge for Los Angeles' prestigious Taste Awards, highlighting the best food shows on television, in film and online. His "Bits and Bites" section promotes culinary news items and longer food/restaurant features dominate his regular column. He also covers entertainment, travel, hospitality and hotels for the paper. In his other life, David is the retired Founder of Landis Communications Inc. (LCI), an award-winning integrated marketing communications firm in San Francisco. David formerly worked at KPIX-TV, the CBS TV affiliate in San Francisco, where he helped the station win a Peabody award and two National Emmy Awards. He also worked as PR Director for the San Francisco Symphony, where he helped open Davies Symphony Hall. A 40-year resident of San Francisco, David loves the arts, books, travel, dogs, hiking and of course the culinary delights of San Francisco. He and his husband, Sean Dowdall, live in Pacific Heights with their two adorable pound pups, Gaston and Alphonse. David is interested in restaurants that have stood the test of time, that welcome LGBTQ customers or have an LGBTQ angle and that primarily (but not exclusively) are in the San Francisco Bay Area and California. I'm also interested in any food stories, recipes, chefs, wines/spirits, sommeliers, authors or consumer food products and I cover the arts, hospitality, hotels, entertainment and travel as well. San Francisco Bay Times
The San Francisco Bay Times is the largest and oldest LGBT newspaper in the San Francisco Bay Area that is and always has been 100% LGBT funded and owned. In 1978, the SF Bay Times became the first newspaper in Northern California and perhaps the world to be jointly and equally created by gay men and lesbians working together. We value the role our legacy continues to play in fostering unity in the LGBT community. Circulation and readership are verified by an independent agency. The SF Bay Times is a bi-weekly paper known for its high journalistic standards in content, design and advertising. Readers of the Bay Times are educated, successful, community-involved, family supportive and hold dear the value of recreation and leisure activities, including travel, dining and entertainment events. The SF Bay Times offers print and web advertising, full content placement online, e-mail marketing services, events and social media. Our reach is 70,000 - 75,000 LGBT contacts in the SF Bay Area and beyond, and we reach more women in Northern California than any other media outlet.
