Biography
Demas Kiprono a Lawyer and Senior Programmes Officer at ARTICLE 19 Eastern Africa, an international not for profit organisation that promotes and protects freedom of expression, access to information and free and independent media. Mr. Kiprono has written and lectured on legal topics relating primarily to human rights especially freedom of expression. He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), the East African Law Society and the Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya). He is also a certified international criminal investigator trained by the International Institute for Criminal Investigations (IICI) at The Hague, Netherlands. He has litigated various issues touching on freedom of expression and is currently challenging criminal libel provisions in Kenya before the high court. Mr. Kiprono regularly does Op-Ed pieces for Kenyan Newspapers such as ‘Daily Nation’, ‘Standard’ and ‘The Star’. He also contributes to monthly magazines such as ‘Nairobi Law Monthly’ and ‘Edge Magazine’.
