Biography

I have written for more than twenty years as a freelance writer and as an academic historian on topics such as multiculturalism, education reform and US/African American identity. My articles have appeared in Al Jazeera English, The Atlantic, HuffPost, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Washington Post, Teachers College Record, Seven Scribes, Academe Magazine, Radical Society, and The Guardian. I am also the author of Fear of a “Black” America: Multiculturalism and the African American Experience (2004). I am a Contributing Writer with Al Jazeera English-Opinions and a Professorial Lecturer in History and American Studies with American University, with a PhD in History from Carnegie Mellon University. I previously worked in the nonprofit world managing social justice and K-16 education programs.
