Biography

My name is Dost Jan Noor, and I am a freelance journalist from Balochistan, Pakistan. Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to uncovering the truth and shedding light on the issues that matter most, often in the face of immense danger and adversity. My journey in journalism has been shaped by the complexities of my homeland, where the struggle for justice, human rights, and freedom of expression is both a daily reality and a battle that I have been compelled to fight. Early Life and Education I was born in the Panjgur District of Balochistan, a region known for its rich history and cultural significance but also for its ongoing socio-political challenges. My early years were spent in Salalah, Oman, where I attended Pakistan School Salalah for my primary education. This experience in Oman gave me a broader perspective on the world, but my heart and roots remained deeply connected to Balochistan. After returning to Balochistan, I continued my education in Panjgur, where I completed my middle and high school studies. My academic journey then led me to Degree College Panjgur, where I began my intermediate studies. Determined to further my education, I pursued a Bachelor's degree at the University of Balochistan, where I focused on subjects that would later inform my career in journalism. After completing my undergraduate studies, I went on to earn a Master’s degree in Media and Journalism, solidifying my commitment to the field. -Professional Career My professional journey began with contributions to local media outlets, where I reported on human rights violations, enforced disappearances, and the socio-political dynamics of Balochistan. Over time, I worked with several news agencies and networks, including Daily Azadi Quetta, Women Shades Magazine, Bol Media Network, Haalhawal.com, Humsub.com, and The Balochistan Point. My work has spanned various formats, from investigative journalism to editorial writing, always with a focus on the critical issues affecting my homeland. One of my most significant roles was as an Associate Producer Copy at Bol News. This position allowed me to refine my skills and broaden my reach. My reporting on sensitive topics made me a target, and I soon found myself facing threats that would change the course of my life. -Challenges and Threats As a journalist in Balochistan, I have faced multiple challenges that have tested my resolve and commitment to the profession. The most severe of these challenges has been the constant threat of violence, enforced disappearances, and assassination attempts. The state’s crackdown on free speech and independent journalism has made Balochistan one of the most dangerous places for reporters, and I have experienced this danger firsthand. Ongoing Struggle and Advocacy Despite the relentless challenges, I remain committed to my work and to the cause of free speech and human rights in Balochistan. I have reached out to international organizations like Front Line Defenders, Reporters Without Borders, Freedom House, and others for support. While I have received assistance, the struggle continues as I seek a safe environment where I can continue my work without fear of persecution. I have also been actively involved in advocacy, not only for my own safety but also for the broader cause of protecting journalists and human rights defenders in Balochistan and beyond. -Future Aspirations Looking forward, my goal is to continue my work as a journalist, whether in Balochistan or elsewhere, where I can report freely and without fear. My dedication to journalism remains unwavering, and I am determined to keep telling the stories that need to be told, no matter the risks involved. Conclusion My journey as a journalist has been fraught with danger and challenges, but it has also been a testament to the power of truth and the importance of speaking out against injustice. I am Dost Jan Noor, and I will continue to use my voice and my pen to fight for the rights of my people and for the freedom of the press, no matter where my journey takes me next.
