Biography

Ella McCarthy is the city hall/city government reporter for the Austin American-Statesman. A graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism, McCarthy has spent the last two years covering local, state and national politics as well as writing about the intersection of equity and policy. Before joining the Statesman, McCarthy worked at the ABC News Washington bureau, covering a variety of topics including Congress and the White House. Prior to that, she wrote about abortion and gun violence for The Kansas City Star, covered the Missouri legislature for the Jefferson City News Tribune and covered local politics and housing for the Columbia Missourian.
