Biography

Emily Harwitz is a freelance science journalist who enjoys exploring the world—both literally and by telling stories about the environment and our connection to it. With her work, she aims to foster community, provoke curiosity, and inspire a sense of deeper connection with the natural world around us—all while celebrating the beauty and diversity around us that make life so special. She is a graduate of UC Santa Cruz's Science Communication program and has a background in chemistry, ecology, and Chinese studies. When not writing, Harwitz is probably playing her flute, drinking tea, practicing animal sounds, or embarking on her next adventure.
