Biography

I'm an investigative and breaking news reporter currently working for the USA Today Network in New York. I primarily cover the Hudson Valley. Previously, I covered several towns in Massachusetts and New Hampshire for The Salem News, The Eagle-Tribune and North of Boston Media Group. For North of Boston, I've covered allegations of hazing and racism at a local high school, the legacy of the 1692 witch trials in Eastern Massachusetts, how an energy company kept plans to build a natural gas-powered plant in a residential community under wraps for more than five years and how the Thin Blue Line flag divided the small town of Danvers. I've interviewed numerous presidential candidates from the campaign trail in New Hampshire, climbed buildings in order to observe rare falcons and reported from the Witch City on Halloween. Before joining North of Boston, I worked as a freelance print and photo journalist in Massachusetts and New Jersey. I reported on a variety of topics including the impact of gentrification on immigrant and non-English speaking families and how traditional churches in New England are struggling to compete with trendy — and often controversial — megachurches like Hillsong. Written and photo bylines include The Asbury Park Press, DigBoston, The Somerville Times, Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism, Spare Change News, nj.com, My Central Jersey, The Hunterdon County Democrat, and The Berkeley Beacon. I've also worked on a variety of podcasts and video projects. I'm originally from Hunterdon County, New Jersey where I developed very strong opinions about bagels and pizza, and in 2019 I graduated cum laude from Emerson College Journalism School in three years. In my free time I love cooking, traveling, painting and listening to music. My portfolio website is https://erinnolan.journoportfolio.com/
