Biography

Esther Paniagua (Madrid, Spain, 1986) is an award-winning independent tech journalist specialized on science, technology and innovation. She works for the main newspapers in Spain -'El Pais' and 'El Mundo'- as well as Sunday magazines (Innovadores), leading tech sites (Xataka), popular science magazines ('National Geographic' and 'Muy Interesante') and specialized magazines (Cancer World). This year (2019) I have been awarded with the 'Accenture Journalism Prize' on Artificial Intelligence and Forbes has included me in their '100 most creative people in business 2019' list. I'm also winner of the Roche Institute Foundation Prize (2018) and winner of the Vodafone Journalism Award (2017). I have been named 'Spanish Science Writer of the Year' (2017) and selected as a finalist of the 'European Science Writer of the Year' award by the ABSW. One of my articles was selected as one of the best 3 works presented to the 'Foro Transfiere' Journalism Award and to the ESET Journalism Prize in Cybersecurity (2018). Esther is a Global Shaper by the WEF and an Aspen Institute alumni. She is a founding member of We The Humans Think Tank. She is also an advisor of other think tanks and organizations such as Bankinter's Future Trends Forum or MujeresTech. Esther has been an associate professor at the Journalism and Digital Communications master’s degree (EAE Business School). She is also a frequent speaker, moderator and MC in national and international events. As an author, she has co-authored the book Diferéncia(te), a non-profit-written book published by Edebe. It is a guide for young people to encourage them to find their own way, based on the experiences of the co-authors. Now, she is writing another book that will be released in 2021. She is also the author of the reports ‘Artificial Intelligence', 'Business Model Disruption' and 'Big Data: the power of Data'. published by Bankinter , and the report 'Work in the platform economy: analysis and proposals for policy makers' published by Kreab, Adigital and GovUp. Background: Esther studied Journalism at Rey Juan Carlos University and she decided to specialize in science with various specialization courses and workshops as well as a Postgraduate Degree in Health and Research Information (at Complutense University of Madrid). She also studied a Master's Degree on Net Strategy. She finished all her studies with honors. Esther started his journalistic work at the Science section of Público national newspaper, and after that in La Razón national newspaper. In 2011 she became Editor in chief of the Spanish edition of MIT Technology Review: a magazine from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology –MIT, in the US- that covers relevant technology issues, as main breakthroughs in biomedicine, materials, physics and others. In 2015, Esther participated as contributor to the TV Program ‘ADNMAX’: a Science TV show for kids produced by the Spanish Discovery Channel (called DMAX).
