Biography

G. Wayne Miller is a former Providence Journal staff writer who now directs OceanStateStories.org, a new non-profit, non-partisan news outlet based at Salve Regina University's Pell Center. He is also co-host and co-producer of the national PBS/SiriusXM Radio program Story in the Public Square, a Telly Award-winning weekly show broadcast in major markets across America. Miller is also a filmmaker, podcaster and author of 20 fiction and non-fiction books, with his 21st, "Unfit to Print: A Modern Media Satire," set to publish on Oct. 10, 2023. Throughout Miller’s journalism career, public-service and social-justice writing, especially about children’s and adult mental health, has remained his passion. Miller was a member of The Journal team that was a finalist for the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for the newspaper’s coverage of The Station nightclub fire that killed 100, and he has been honored for his work more than 50 times including in 2016 with the Lila M. Sapinsley Community Service Award, from Butler Hospital, an annual award that “honors a member of the community for his or her personal achievements and contributions to the field of mental health and behavioral health care in Rhode Island. Miller is honored for his longtime advocacy for individuals affected by mental health, developmental disabilities and other areas of brain health.” A cum laude graduate of Harvard College, Miller is the father of three adult children and is married to Yolanda Gabrielle.
