Biography

I received my journalism degree from Ryerson University at the nadir of the great recession, with the goal of one day working for GQ or Esquire. Since they weren’t hiring, I took an internship at Toronto Life, where I had published my first ever feature. As an intern though, I mostly wrote snarky blog posts. In 2010, I landed an assistant editor job at Sharp, Canada’s largest men’s magazine. It wasn’t one of the big American titles, but it was the closest thing a Canadian boy could hope for. In-between writing articles that enthusiastically recommended watches I would never afford, and composing award-winning, deeply felt articles about retinol-infused face cream, I interviewed celebrities and wrote features. After a few years, I became the editor-in-Chief of Sharp. The title came with free designer suits and the whisper of prestige. But because we’re talking about Canadian media, I was still writing a lot of Sharp’s content. I left Sharp in 2017 to work at FASHION, where my main job, again, was interviewing celebrities for our cover stories. Now though the celebrities were women. I mean, I wrote a lot of features about women at Sharp, but now I didn’t have to objectify them. I was also tasked with relaunching their men’s magazine. I envisioned Title as a kind of self-aware version of GQ or The Ringer. Alas, it only lasted a year, (but still scored a National Magazine Award.) But for that year, I kept living that Lifestyle Journalist Life—all the product launches, press trips, and superficial interviews with celebrity spokespeople you could handle. Now, thanks to COVID, I'm at home. But we can still work together!
