Biography
Harvey Briggs is the founder, publisher, and editor of Rides & Drives. In addition, he is an automotive enthusiast, writer, marketer, producer, and on-air presenter whose passion for cars, driving, and the automotive industry was ignited at an early age when in 1968 his father pulled into the driveway in a new Porsche 911 Targa. After spending his youth tinkering with minibikes, working on the family cars, hanging out at racetracks, and “borrowing” the 911 the few times his father was foolish enough to leave the keys unguarded, Harvey became an intern at Car and Driver Magazine while studying at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Working for the legendary David E. Davis, Jr., Harvey learned the editorial side of the business from the ground up, eventually writing several articles for the magazine before graduating and moving into the world of automotive advertising. Harvey worked at J. Walter Thompson on Ford, DMB&B on Pontiac and Cadillac, and Campbell-Ewald on Chevrolet where he rose to the position of Senior Vice President/Creative Director at the ripe old age of 29. Over the years his work has been awarded with Clios, One Shows, Addys, an Emmy, a Gold Lion at the Cannes Advertising Festival, and he was named the Best TV Copywriter by Adweek Magazine for his humorous Chevy Trucks in Ford County campaign. Harvey was a partner in his own advertising agency for 17 years, before returning to the editorial world writing for a number of websites and publications including Winding Road, Bimmerfest, 95 Octane, New Roads, Automotive Map, and Pursuitist. In 2016, He founded Rides & Drives to tell stories that focus on the experience of driving and the romance of the open road. Harvey is also the on-air automotive expert for WISC TV in Madison and has been a guest on several radio shows and podcasts sharing his expertise about cars and the automotive industry. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, Harvey is also president of the Midwest Automotive Media Association. He enjoys working on and riding his vintage Ducati when he’s not traveling the world driving cars and writing stories about his experiences.
