Biography

Hessie Is a Privacy Technologist, Investor, Strategist, Journalist and Author. She is currently working in Startup Technology and Privacy. She has 20 years in start-up tech: data targeting, profile and behavioural analytics, AI tech and more recently data privacy and security. Hessie is a cofounding member of PIISA.org, to detect and remediate personal information in LLMs. Hessie is also a writer at Forbes, GritDaily and former editorial associate, Towards Data Science, a Cofounding member of MyData Canada, Board of Advisors member with Women in AI Ethics, Board member with Technology for Good Canada, former Co-founder of the Education Reform Collective and the Institute for Ethical AI & Machine Learning, plus technology mentor and start-up advisor. She is also the Innovations Manager at Altitude Accelerator in Toronto. Technology is perilously close to driving surveillance tendencies. While it is a purveyor to gain immediate insight that helps fuel decisions, the overwhelming demand for more data also puts at risk the individual freedom and privacy that we cherish. The pervasiveness of data analytics and the burgeoning need to decipher user intent and propensities has raised alarms among those of us who believe we should be protecting our freedom -- this, as lawmakers put measures into place to impose upon the public at large the rampant use of data without people’s positive consent. Hessie also advocates for AI readiness, education and the ethical distribution of AI in this era of transformation. As a seasoned digital strategist, author, tech geek and data junkie, she has spent the last 18 years on the internet at Yahoo!, Aegis Media, CIBC, and Citi, as well as tech startups including Cerebri, OverlayTV and Jugnoo. Hessie saw things change rapidly when search and social started to change the game for advertising and decided to figure out the way new market dynamics would change corporate environments forever: in process, in culture and in mindset. She launched her own business, ArCompany in social intelligence, and now, AI readiness and research. Through the weekly think tank discussions her team curated, she surfaced the generational divide in this changing technology landscape across a multitude of topics.
