Biography

Itohowo Okim is more commonly known as Itty, and is a Lagos-based creative entrepreneur, expressing art as a creative director, PR practitioner, culture journalist and writer. With 5 years experience of participating in shaping African popular culture in the aforementioned capacities, Itty wears many fitting hats when it comes to music, film, fashion and art. As a journalist, Itty has documented afrobeats’ rise to global dominance with editorial pieces on GRM Daily, OkayAfrica, Nataal, The Guardian, DJ Booth, Audiomack amongst other leading culture-focused international media. This journey has seen him profiling A-list acts including Asake, ODUMODUBLVCK, Bnxn, Made Kuti, CKay, Blaqbonez, Zlatan, DJ Obi, Bella Shmurda, Phyno, London, P.Priime and a long list of others. It is necessary to mention his immense contribution towards Lagos’ Afrogospel sub-culture through his 2020 publication, Pop Culture Intelligence; a period during which he documented the scene’s recent history and its key players including Limoblaze, Gaise Baba, Gil Joe et al on Rapzilla, Y! Africa, Bella Naija plus more. Itty has since 2022 held the position of Managing Editor at DigiMillennials, a Canadian platform that amplifies black entertainment and organizers of the famous Afrovibes Festival, Kitchener-Waterloo. Through this position, he has successfully led multiple campaigns promoting African entertainment and her socio-culture. As a PR practitioner, Itty Okim continues to shape the public image of countless brands through a concept he has termed as “narrative design”. He currently works as PR manager to Limoblaze, Ademola Falomo, Fedworks and Gimba under the flagship of Spare Keys Inc., a creative direction and PR agency established in 2023. Alongside these, Itty leads the team of editors at No Hablo Espanol, a Barcelona-based fashion brand. As a creative director, Itty is known for the simplicity of his style that results in exotic-yet-minimal flamboyance. His credits range from music projects, to films, photoshoots, music videos, events like art exhibitions and others. For Itty, the process is equally as important as the creative output when it comes to working on projects. Brick by brick, he brings bloom to every table, paying attention to all necessary details while putting creative pieces together. Itty is the co-host of BaeGist Podcast, Nigeria’s leading relationship podcast with famous guests like Asherkine, Ruby Akubueze, Juliana Olayode and others.
