Biography

I am an investigative reporter for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, where I have also covered the environment and city hall since 2010. I just completed a multimedia/longform investigation about child sex trafficking, “The Stolen Ones.” It’s a good example of the storytelling and technical skills I have, and it shows the determination and leadership I bring to my newsroom. An honors graduate of Colorado State University, I am a recipient of such awards as the Peabody, an IRE certificate and other honors. Before moving to Florida, I was editor of my college newspaper, I worked as an investigative producer for Denver’s CBS affiliate, freelanced for the Denver Post and wrote longform narratives for Westword, an alternative weekly. My work has been featured in a textbook, “Investigative Reporting: From Premise to Publication.” I’ve broken national news, followed the turn of the screw on a beat, and my reporting has triggered firings, a court-martial, resignations and policy changes big and small.
