Established in 1995 as IRIN News by the United Nations, it became independent in 2015 and rebranded in 2019. The organization operates globally, with a network of over 200 contributors and editors, providing multimedia coverage from more than 60 countries. The New Humanitarian focuses on independent journalism that emphasizes local voices and historical context. It produces in-depth reporting, multimedia content, and accountability journalism that highlights systemic failures in humanitarian responses. The organization aims to challenge traditional crisis reporting by offering solutions-oriented narratives. Its work targets policymakers, humanitarian practitioners, and affected communities, fostering dialogue and raising awareness of underreported crises. The New Humanitarian prioritizes local-centric reporting and diverse perspectives, aiming for impact-driven journalism that promotes accountability and policy change.
