James LaPorta is an award-winning journalist and photographer based in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He is a former U.S. Marine and a veteran of the Afghanistan war. He has covered a wide array of topics from national security and the Department of Defense to the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Matthew and political battles between North Carolina and the LGBTQ community.
