Biography

A native Washingtonian, Jason Samenow has been a weather enthusiast since age 10 (1987). At the University of Virginia, he earned a degree in environmental science, focusing in atmospheric science. He went on to earn a master’s degree in atmospheric science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000. Jason is currently the Washington Post’s weather editor. From 2000 to September 2010, he worked as a climate change science analyst for the U.S. EPA monitoring, analyzing and communicating the science of climate change. He was the project manager for EPA's report on climate change indicators, and a lead author for the technical support document for EPA's endangerment finding for greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. Jason founded CapitalWeather.com in early 2004, the first professional weather blog on the Internet which was absorbed by the Post in 2008. Jason is a past chairman of the D.C. Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and a Weather and Society Integrated Studies Fellow. Jason lives with his wife, Deborah, and son, Evan, in Washington, D.C.
