Biography

Jason Sigales is a multimedia reporter with INQUIRER.net. He covers the Philippine National Police, the National Capital Region Police Office, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, and general news. He is open to reporting on topics related to the environment. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with high honors from the University of the Philippines Diliman - College of Mass Communication. Sigales interned at ABS-CBN News’ Patrol ng Pilipino, where he edited social media-oriented videos and wrote articles and scripts. He also served as editor-in-chief of Tinig ng Plaridel, the official student publication of UP CMC; internal vice president of the UP Broadcasting Association; and publicity vice president of the UP Radio Circle and the UP Green League. His undergraduate thesis discussed how mainstream Philippine outlets framed climate change in a decade of reporting and was recognized by the UP CMC Department of Journalism. He was also a runner-up in the Special Projects category of the Philippine Journalism Research Conference for his data-driven feature story on public libraries in the country. Sigales’ interests include pop music, the superhero genre, coming-of-age stories, science fiction, creative writing, United States politics, graphic design, and data journalism.
