San Francisco Chronicle
The San Francisco Chronicle is a historic daily newspaper that has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area since its founding in June 1865. Originally started as the Dramatic Chronicle by teenage brothers Charles and Michael de Young, it quickly evolved from a theater listings sheet into a major publication, achieving the largest circulation of any West Coast newspaper by 1880. The Chronicle has documented significant events in history, including the completion of the transcontinental railroad and the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Today, the Chronicle provides both print and digital news, offering daily editions and a strong online presence with breaking news and feature stories. It also maintains a collection of historical issues from 1865 to 1922, which are valuable for research. The newspaper covers a wide range of topics, including arts, politics, business, and technology, catering to the diverse interests of Bay Area residents and national audiences alike. Its commitment to investigative journalism and digital expansion continues to define its role as a key source of news in the region.
