Los Angeles-based entertainment journalist and critic John Griffiths—most recently a regular contributor to AARP magazine and Emmy—is currently on the Advisory Board of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, which he founded in 2008. GALECA's 550 members (as of early 2025) vote on the Dorian Awards for the best in film, TV, and Broadway/Off-Broadway across mainstream and queer-themed. An activist for underrepresented and often underpaid entertainment journalists, John in 2019 also helped form CGEM: Critics Groups for Equality in Media, an alliance of five "minority" critics groups (including GALECA). John was the Television Critic for Us Weekly from 2004 to 2017, juggling his duties for a time as Contributing Editor / celebrity booker for Women's Health magazine. His previous positions in include Senior Arts and Entertainment Editor for The Advocate, and Special Correspondent for People magazine. As a celebrity profiler, he has interviewed hundreds of notables, including Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Garner, Courteney Cox and Keanu Reeves, for the covers of InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, TV Guide, Redbook and more. In addition, he has hosted a weekly live digital radio show covering the intersection of Hollywood and mental health issues, participated on the Public Awareness Task Force of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, and for many years volunteered as a judge and more for the Prism Awards, honoring accurate depictions of addiction and mental health issues in film and TV.
