Biography

Kane Farabaugh is an Emmy® award-winning broadcast journalist, documentary producer and filmmaker, writer, and digital content provider. He is a proficient "one-man band" videographer, non-linear video editor and producer, and manages multiple projects and products across various broadcast and digital platforms. Farabaugh serves as the Midwest Bureau Chief for VOA, covering events of international significance in the heartland of America. Over a career that spans three decades, he has reported from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and has covered a wide variety of news events ranging from riots in Ferguson, Missouri to U.S. Presidential elections to the Olympics. His career began as a U.S. Air Force broadcast journalist in Korea and Japan. He has worked on-air as a TV reporter in Rockford, Illinois; Tampa, Florida; Bakersfield, California; Charleston, West Virginia; and Syracuse, New York. Farabaugh also served as Director of Special Projects for the American Forces Network Europe in Germany, managing long-form television products which included coverage of military operations in the Middle East. He was honored as the 2002 Army Civilian Broadcast Journalist of the Year, and was twice awarded the Civilian Service Commendation Medal. The 2015 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Chicago / Midwest Chapter Emmy® Award for Outstanding Achievement - Historical Documentary was awarded to Farabaugh's World War II project "The Greatest Honor." It is the third Emmy® for his independent production company KaneStar Productions. Farabaugh was a national finalist in the 2001 University of Michigan Livingston Awards for Young Journalists, is a recipient of a National Headliner Award, and has received several regional RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Awards, several AP Awards including Best Enterprise Reporter and Outstanding One Man Band Videographer, and the New York Festivals Award among numerous others.
