Khotso Dineo (Kay-Dee) Mashile was born in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. While she grew up in many parts of South Africa, to which she attributes her cultural diversity, her most steady home is still a beautiful village called Nkwinyamahembhe (Lillydale), in Bushbuckridge. Kay-Dee works as a PR and Communications Specialist. She runs her own social media and marketing consultancy called Taugadi Media Consultants. She is also the Founder and Managing Director of Perfect Love Publications and Perfect Love Youth. Perfect Love Publications is an all-black female-owned and run publishing company that aims to equip young emerging authors with writing-related skills and knowledge so that they can become competent authors. The Perfect Love Publications team mentors each author and caters to their specific needs at prices that are tailored for young people in previously disadvantaged demographic groups. At Perfect Love Youth, literacy is used as a tool to address the socio-economic challenges faced by rural and township communities through peer mentorship. The mentorship programme allows for unemployed youths to reach out to other young people within their communities to assist them with writing while addressing other area-specific challenges and social ills. Kay-Dee and the Perfect Love Team strive to create platforms for young authors and artists to share their work. She is currently hosting a podcast show called The Poetry Pulpit where poets are given a platform to share their audio recordings to be featured on the Tuesday and Thursday episodes. Parallel to that, Kay-Dee hosts a YouTube show called The Poetry Pulpit Reading Sessions where she reviews and reads extracts from different books on Mondays and Wednesdays. She also has her personal podcast and YouTube talk show called Konversations with Kay-Dee which releases weekly episodes on Fridays. Both podcasts are available on most of the major streaming platforms. In between juggling school, work and trying to change the world, Kay-Dee is a singer and a spoken-word artist. Moreover, she is the published author of the poetry anthologies Kingdom Poetry, Rito Ranga: Finding My Voice, Twenty and My Song of Songs, as well as a short novel tilted Perfect Love: The Absence of Fear. Kay-Dee is passionate about the youth of Africa. She believes that it is up to young African people to change their narrative and rewrite it into one that both the current and future generations will be proud to read.
