Biography
Lance Avery Morgan offers a variety of experience toward his responsibilities as the founding Editor-In-Chief/Creative Director of Society Texas magazine since 2019. Before that, he was the founding Editor-In-Chief/Creative Director of The Society Diaries magazine (2011-2019), Brilliant magazine (2003-2010), as well as the founder of the ModXMan digital platform aimed at the affluent man. In his spare time, he co-hosts (and co-founded) the successful podcast series, Success With Style. He loves to celebrate and elevate high-performing Texans in his media platforms...as a former editor of Elegant Texan, Verve, Cigar Lifestyles and Austin Monthly magazines, Morgan’s track record combines the best of both stellar creativity and senior management. With his magazines, he has personally secured and produced the magazines’ cover stories of fashionable socialites and celebrities such as: Texans Becca Cason Thrash, Lynn Wyatt, and Carolyn Farb, Diana Ross, Kate Moss, Mariska Hargitay, Emily Procter, Elizabeth Mitchell, Jerry Hall, Andy Roddick, Erykah Badhu, Carol Burnett, and Marcia Gay Harden. He’s also created insightful interviews with prominent cultural figures as diverse as Kyle Chandler, Cher, Bob Mackie, Paloma Picasso, Plum Sykes, Salvatore Ferragamo, Carolina Herrera, John Loring, William Yeoward, Michael Dell, Patrick McMullan, supermodel Erin Wasson…and hundreds more style and social notables. Helming Society Texas magazine now, the publication provides a dynamic insider’s view of the bold lifestyle and exciting personality of Texas...celebrating and elevating the best of people, parties, culture, travel, design, philanthropy, entertaining, and beyond. It brings to its sophisticated readers the very best the world has to offer as the premier luxury lifestyle magazine that reflects the entire state’s top metro markets. Through high-profile philanthropic and cultural events, and its strategic distribution partners, the magazine is read, and loved, by a captive audience that inspires socialites, celebrities, business owners, and trend-setters alike. The largesse of these readers around the globe is immeasurable. Some of the hundreds of philanthropies, and its supporters, that Morgan has supported are in Texas...and beyond. In the Lone Star State, some of these highly regarded organizations include the Texas Cultural Trust and its bi-annual Texas Medal of Arts Awards (since its inception), Make-A-Wish, The Bob Bullock State History Museum, Houston Grand Opera, DIFFA in Dallas, CASA of Travis County, Ballet Austin, Houston Junior League, McNay Museum of Art, Dell Children's Medical Center, Zachary Scott Theatre, Center For Child Protection/SAFE, St. David’s Foundation, Dallas Museum of Art, and so many more. On a national and international level, Morgan has supported causes like Best Buddies, American Friends of the Louvre, Save Venice, and American Friends of Versailles, since they all have strong Texas ties. Morgan even has even had time to write a novel about the Jet Set life he’s chronicled for two decades, The Society Chronicles, that all started with Brilliant magazine. Said Texan Liz Smith in her New York Post syndicated column about Brilliant, “One must be a work of art, or wear a work of art," said Oscar Wilde and that quote came back to me when I opened the new Texas magazine called Brilliant. This new magazine gives Vogue, Bazaar and Architectural Digest a run for their money. Brilliant is like the Texas Town & Country.” To market his media properties, Morgan has become a notable of sorts himself with media appearances and event emceeing roles. As a social philanthropist, he has hosted and media sponsored hundreds events across the state that have had such Texas celebrities in attendance as Luke and Owen Wilson, Lily Tomlin, Sandra Bullock, Dennis Quaid and many more who represent the best of Texas-tied talent. These events have proven Morgan to be an exceptional event host specialist to draw a significant crowd with the right entertainment, décor, and sponsors for a memorable happening. But, it all started somewhere. Before returning to Texas in 2000, Morgan spent much of his career in Los Angeles and San Francisco as a senior level television writer and producer for programming on networks as diverse as MTV, CNBC, Lifetime, FOX Sports, VH-1 and Discovery, as well as working in celebrity public relations, too, with clients like Richard Lewis, Paula Poundstone, Adrian Pasdar, and dozens more. While Morgan was an executive with the internationally recognized public relations firms Niehaus Ryan Wong and Hill & Knowlton, a sampling of his clients included Yahoo!, Pixar, Motley Fool, Live Planet, Nordstrom and NetFlix. Before that, he was a media executive with IPG’s Western International Media Corporation. In his spare time, Morgan has also been an on-screen television personality on FOX/KTBC 7 News, as host and producer of Capital Culture for three seasons in the early 2000s, along with dozens of media appearances on Texas morning talk shows and hosting numerous events along the way. Often referred to as The Dominick Dunne of Texas, Morgan combines the best of all media worlds… those of society, style, and creativity. Beyond his journalistic obligations, in his spare time, Lance Avery Morgan is currently working on two more books: Make Mine Champagne (a second memoir about the world of the celebrated and infamous) and Party Favors (an insider's look at successful entertaining ideas for hosting the perfect event).
