Lauren Santa Cruz is currently working as a Digital Video Producer/Editor for the leading progressive think tank in Washington, D.C, the Center for American Progress. Since she began at CAP in May 2012, Lauren's videos have racked up over 30,000 hits. Recently in 2013, her video "Oil and Ice: The Risks of Drilling in Alaska's Arctic Ocean" was chosen as an official selection of the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival, the Dam Short Film Festival, and the Colorado Environmental Film Festival. Lauren's work has also been featured in National Geographic online, TIME Magazine online, and The Washington Post online. Before joining CAP, Lauren worked as a freelance multimedia journalist with organizations such as Time Magazine and Special Olympics. Originally from Miami, Florida, Lauren received her B.A. in Psychology and Art from the University of Miami and completed her M.A. in Multimedia Journalism in December 2010. As a graduate student, she worked with the Knight Center for International Journalism where she directed, produced, and edited award-winning international stories that spanned over 4 continents. Her work focused on a variety of issues ranging from primary education in India, to illegal immigration issues in the Dominican Republic, to dispelling negative stereotypes of Eastern European Roma peoples.
