Biography
Her first assignment as a journalist was to cover the 1997 elections for the Association of Community Radios of El Salvador (Arpas). Between 1998 and December 2001, she was editorial and webmaster assistant at elfaro.net. As such, she covered the presidential inauguration of Francisco Flores in 1999 and the earthquakes of January and February 2001. She joined the editorial staff of El Diario de Hoy in June 2001. She graduated with a degree in Communications and Journalism from the José Simeón Cañas University (UCA) in 2002. In 2004, she was invited by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to participate in a workshop on monitoring the recommendations of the treaty bodies to the countries (Ginegra, Switzerland, 2004). She is selected by the Foundation for New Ibero-American Journalism (FNPI) in 2007 to attend a workshop on environmental journalism with the editor of EFE Verde, Arturo Larena. From 2006 to 2009, she was part of the investigation team of El Diario de Hoy. Despite the disintegration of this group, she continued to do investigative journalism. In 2004 she received the Unicef Prize for Journalism in the written press category for a report on girls raped by a family member or friend. For a year and a half, from January 2014 to June 2015, she works as a professor at the School of Communications of the Dr. José Matías Delgado University, teaching the subjects of Press and Literature Applied to Communication. In December 2014, she was selected to cover the Climate Summit (COP20) in Lima, Peru as a journalist. The environment, child migration, human rights, needs in schools and public hospitals are the topics on which she has written the most in the last four years. In August 2017, she became the editor of the Data Unit of El Diario de Hoy, from where, together with young journalists, she assumed the task of not only doing data journalism but also of combining this with the stories and the people who live in own flesh what the data reveal. It is there, in this Data Unit, where the project "Faces and Voices of the Conflict (War)" is gestated, an ambitious work that aims to compile the human rights violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed between 1972 and 1992 in El Salvador.
