Biography

Lucía Navarro is president and co-founder of The Luna Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting equity, gender equality and human rights. Lucia is currently collaborating in partnership with a number of North, Central and South American Educational Institutions, organizations and corporations that are compatible with The Luna Foundation: VISION: “Equality starts at home”. A world where men and woman have the same opportunities. MISSION: We work with public and privaste organizations supporting projects that improve the quality of life in their communities. The Luna Foundation is currently working with its international partners reaching out too many woman and families throughout the America’s, in countries such as Bolivia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, USA, Argentina and beyond. As a lecturer, Lucia has addressed audiences of different age groups, speaking topics include: Leadership, Empowerment, Domestic Violence, women rights, Quality and Corporate Communication. As a journalist, she frequently conducts seminars and participates at many international events and conventions addressing some of the most pressing topics of the day in media, social justice, and political affairs. Navarro’s thirty-five years of news anchor-ship with the most prestigious global news corporations such as CNN, Univision, Telemundo and TELEVISA, have position her to interview a number of heads of state, corporate leaders and the top leadership of many international organizations, such as the United Nations, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, Organization of American States, CEPAL, CAF, Pan American Health Organization and of the European Union, among many others. Lucía began her career in 1984 in Monterrey, Mexico when she debuted as a presenter on Channel 8 CEMPAE (today Televisión Azteca). From 1986 to 1993, she was co-host of the news program "Buenos Días" on Televisa Monterrey. In that same year, she began her career at the Telemundo Network in the United States where she was the newscaster for their affiliate station in Houston, TX, while she also worked as content editor. In 2001, during the company's expansion project, she was recruited by NBC-Telemundo executives to be the host of KVEA's prime time newscasts, in Los Angeles, where she used her extensive experience in creating journalistic content becoming the lead image of the Hispanic television market of the greater Los Angeles area. During her career Lucia has been nominated five times for the prestigious Emmy awards, winning three times in the categories of investigative journalism: (1) medical, (2) social affairs and, (3) transcendental news. In addition, Lucia has won two Golden Mic awards as the best newscast for the Telemundo Channel 52 News, and for the best breaking news coverage. Under Lucia’s leadership the station received the 2007 Governor Award for the weekly program called "The Good and the Bad" at KVEA, granted by the United States, Academy of Arts and Sciences. Navarro has volunteered hundreds of hours for many non-profit organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House in Houston and Los Angeles. In 2004, Lucia received the prestigious "Bert Corona" award given by the Hermandad Mexicana organization to personalities distinguished for their contribution in social justice and human rights as well as for her leadership in supporting the immigrant community in Southern California. The organization "Hispanic Women in Leadership" distinguished her as "Woman of the Year in 1997". In 2004, The State of California also recognized and awarded Lucia for her outstanding work in Journalism. Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Lucia received her BA in Communications from the Monterrey Institute of Technology of Higher Education (ITESM-known as the MIT of Latin America), and has been recognized as one of its most outstanding alumni. Lucia also obtained a Certification as a Social Media Professional from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Lucia is fluent in both English and Spanish. 03/2018
