Biography
Maria Harding is a journalist, author, business writer and broadcaster whose career spans 42 years, many of them spent covering the travel and tourism industry for the business, trade and consumer press, national newspapers and national radio. She is currently associate editor of the business magazine Cruise Insight and contributes to a range of other publications and websites, including Britain’s Daily Express and the Trinity Mirror Group, which owns one of the UK’s largest collections of national and regional newspapers. Maria started her career in Liverpool in 1978, after graduating with an Honours Degree in English and Drama. After training on local newspapers, she worked for a national press agency and covered international freight and economics for the Journal of Commerce, before moving to London in 1983 to become passenger shipping correspondent for the travel industry Travel News (now Travel Weekly). Since then, she has written about travel in general and specifically cruising, charting the sector's growth from a minority interest to a billion dollar industry which, in pre-Covid 2018, carried nearly 30 million passengers worldwide. Maria also writes about special interest holidays (the more offbeat the better), and has written about global weather, and UK consumer rights. Her book `Weather to Travel’ is available on Amazon, and she spent several years as freelance consumer champion for Woman’s Own, one of Britain’s leading weekly magazines.
