Biography

I started my official writing career with Chicagoist in its Arts and Culture section, where I began on the music beat and ended up covering all manner of things, but especially "the nerd beat" and the museum beat. I also began photographing concerts and exhibits for articles here. Eventually, I'd go on to network with local museums and start a brand new series at Chicagoist, Ask a Scientist, where we'd feature a scientist from one of the area museums and introduce them to the readership, then let the readers ask questions that'd be answered the following week. I also established our coverage of local conventions and took over coverage of the housewares show. Shortly before Chicagoist was shut down by the Ricketts unexpectedly, I also started contributing to Third Coast Review, a publication borne out of the ashes of Gaper's Block. Their goal was to create an arts and culture site carefully curated for its readers. I began writing with them and shortly became an editor for the Beyond section, which covered suburban events and things which were a little off the beaten path. In this role I also established our wall to wall convention coverage, which has garnered recognition from prominent convention heads. I also became the Art and Museums editor, and maintain a close working relationship with all of Chicago's major institutions as well as institutions out of state, zoos and conservatories/parks. As a photographer I continue to expand my boundaries and also freelance as an event photographer, something I love.
