Biography
I'm a writer and editor who focuses on topics related to analytics, technology, workforce development, recruitment and careers. As editor of the HCM Technology Report, I'm one of the few journalists around who devotes almost all of my time to covering the HR tech industry. Beyond the HCMT, my work has appeared in TechTarget, HR Magazine, SHRM Online and Dice Insights, as well as the corporate websites of DataScava and IQ Workforce. In 2017, my HR Magazine cover story on hiring convicted felons won the SPJ/DC Deadline Award for be trade-media feature. Over the course of more than 25 years, I've written, edited and produced hundreds of stories, videos and multimedia programs on analytics, technology, talent management, and finance. My articles have been published by Entrepreneur.com, Dow Jones, Factiva, Bloomberg and KPMG. I've reported on the use of analytics in HR, and the synergies between artificial intelligence and analytics. I've also covered trends in software development, enterprise technology, online consumer products, small business web products, as well as corporate taxes, personal finance and investing. As managing editor of Dice.com, I developed an editorial package that expanded the web site’s coverage of technology job news and career developments and drove a year-on-year traffic increase of 58 percent. I also expanded the scope of reporting undertaken by eFinancialCareers as editor of its North American edition. I began my career as one of the first editorial staff members for the online division of Dow Jones & Company. There I helped develop Dow Jones News/Retrieval’s Business and Finance Report, which was among the earliest news products created especially for online business readers. I also oversaw the design and production of JournalFax, a summary of The Wall Street Journal distributed in Japan, and managed development of the Dow Jones version of Dun’s Market Identifiers, one of the first online applications of an SQL database. As a product manager, I produced The Wall Street Journal’s first multimedia CD-ROM products. I have a Master’s Degree in Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and a Bachelor of Science in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University’s College of Communication. My novel September was published in 2006, and my flash fiction has appeared around the world.
