Biography
Hey! My name is Matt, and I am a sports journalist and storyteller. Currently, I am a student at the University of Missouri - Columbia pursuing a degree in journalism with a sports writing & reporting emphasis and the site manager and lead reporter for San Antonio Spurs on Sports Illustrated. At MU, I first served as the sports editor for the university's student-run publication, The Maneater, and also wrote for the Columbia Daily Tribune — a city-wide newspaper — where I still serve as a preps correspondent for high-school sports. Additionally, I serve as a staff writer for Sports Illustrated's team-specific sites. There I write for Missouri, Texas A&M and the San Antonio Spurs, covering the team both remotely and in-person as credentialed media. Some of my previous stops have been covering the Milwaukee Bucks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys and Ohio State Buckeyes for Sports Illustrated, as well as the NFL for Men's Journal. I've been blessed to secure interviews with figures the likes of Ken Goldin, Randy Travis, Chase Young and Kobe Brown, as well as speak to representatives from the Spurs, NBA, Fanatics, New Balance and SickKids. I find it intriguing that in the world of professional sports, it tends to be forgotten that athletes are people, too. I intend to explore my interest in sports further throughout my career, using my skills of interviewing and writing to report on the true character of athletes and tell stories that otherwise would not be seen. As for now, I am focused on putting forward my best writing — gaining valuable work and leadership experience during my time at MU and while covering the Spurs.
