Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim is a multiple award-winning investigative journalist and creative writer based in Gombe, Nigeria. With interest in investigative, data & solutions journalism, he has won numerous awards at both national and international levels. In 2021, he won four highly competitive journalism awards: inaugural Lekan Otufodunrin Journalists Awards, West African Media Excellence Conference and Awards, ICIR Data/Investigative Journalism Awards & Youths Digest Journalism Awards. He is also a recipient of Youths Digest Journalism Awards 2020, Alfred Opubor Next-Gen Journalism Awards 2022, CITAD Accountability Reporting Awards 2022, Budgit Active Citizens Awards 2023 & 30 Under 30 Arewa Stars Awards 2023. In 2021, he became the youngest journalist ever to be honoured with the prestigious WAMECA award since its inception in 2017. He was not only thrilled to make the nomination list but also to be included among PhD, masters, and bachelor degrees holders from various West African countries. Moreover, he competed with a visiting scholar from the University of Oxford in the same category, which added to his excitement. He was the only African selected among the 4 winners of DW Global Media Forum Ticket 2022. He is a 2022 grantee of the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), funded by the MacArthur Foundation, for the Journalists Against Corruption project. This project aims to drive investigative journalism and document grassroots corruption. He is a 2024 ImpactHouse-GRESP Reporting Fellow, a 2022 ICIR-OCRP Reporting Fellow, a 2022 NYFF-IFWG Fellow, a 2021 MFWA-JCN Fellow, and a 2020 AIJC Fellow, hosted by Wits University, Johannesburg, South Africa. In 2022, he was shortlisted for the African Solutions Journalism Fellowship. Similarly, he made the shortlist for the Climate Tracker COP26 Fellowship. His investigative stories have been featured in prominent publications such as African Arguments, IJ Net, SJN, Halal Reporters, Premium Times, ICIR, The Nation, Abuja Business Reports, & Edutorial. He has also contributed opinion articles to Daily Trust, Peoples Daily & etc. While his creative work has been published or is forthcoming in about 20 national and international anthologies and in so many magazines, including AFAS Review, New Ink Review, Praxis & Tuck online Magazines, 5th Wall Press, Cajun Mutt Press, The Word Finesse, and elsewhere. His play manuscript "The Harvest of Our Days" won the Doyle Edeni Prize for Literature 2024 and was also shortlisted for the New Man Writing Contest 2018.
