Biography

For 23 years Nick Honachefsky has been a prominent voice anchoring the sport fishing media industry. Upon graduation at Villanova University, wanderlust set in. Nick hopped on a plane to live half a year on the secluded Greek Island of Paros; fishing with the locals and igniting a fuse to explore, fish and write about the world’s eclectic cultures. A life dedicated to search out the world’s fishing destinations has taken him across the globe, including the entire Caribbean islands, Central America, the 50 US states, Europe and afar, shaping his soul and professional career into a full time sport fishing and travel journalist. Currently Nick holds continuous editorial positions at Saltwater Sportsman, Guy Harvey Magazine, Outdoor Life, The Fisherman, FishTrack, On the Water Magazine and is Executive Producer and Host of Saltwater Underground on www.tackledirect.com, TV host of Hookin’ up with Nick and Mariko on the World Fishing Network and Sport Fishing TV on NBC Sports. Called upon as a fishing personality in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Men’s Journal, Vice Magazine, Discovery Channel and HLN network, he also writes the saltwater fishing columns in Gannett USA newspapers and is author of the local best selling books; The Jersey Surf Diaries and The New Jersey Boat Fisherman. Honachefsky has been called upon to host Captain Sig and Edgar’s World’s Deadliest Catch seminar series, built a fishing show with rock star Dean Ween, and annually co-hosts George Poveromo’s national seminar series. While seeing plenty of happiness, struggles and many precarious situations in his travels, on October 29, 2012, Superstorm Sandy hit ground Zero at the Jersey Shore and literally wiped Nick’s entire life’s possessions, writings and photography off the map, forcing a brave new life. Tragedy has never defined his soul, but faith, hope and boundless positive spirit drives his passion, both in his media and in his everyday life. And though Nick has swam with live sailfish in Costa Rica, been shot at in Nicaragua, scaled the Pitons of St. Lucia, and woke up next to a halibut in Alaska, he also holds the dubious distinction as an IGFA All-Tackle World Record holder for the Bergall, a lowly bottom feeding “trash fish”.
