Biography

I am a London-based MENA political analyst after four years living in Amman, Jordan. My marriage to a Jordanian gives me an inside perspective into political Islam, tribalism, political segregation and family rule. Being based in Amman allowed for travel to Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and the GCC states. Touring Jordan also gave me first-hand experience of Jordan's regime security, religious spectrum and nationalism vs regional identity. I frequently draw on my field experience and personal MENA contacts in my publications. I speak Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic or الفصحى) and have worked for Jordan-based NGOs and as Adviser to the Arab Institute for Security Studies. In addition, I have consulted with the Swiss Embassy in Jordan and have made guest appearances on {Al Jazeera} (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHjgKfryaa0), [Voice of Islam Radio] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jql8u4-FDNY) and [Sputnik Radio UK] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viMfQVJn4zY). My thesis focuses on the non-democratic legitimacy of regimes within the context of the Arab Spring, my case studies including Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain.
