Biography

Nina Ignaczak is a multimedia journalist covering the environment, with a particular eye towards how environmental issues intersect with health, race, and equity. Her stories can be found in a wide range of Detroit-based and national publications. She is the publisher and editor of the Planet Detroit newsletter, an independent digital media startup that aims to tell Detroit's environmental stories. She also publishes Michigan Climate News on Bulletin. Prior to launching Planet Detroit, she worked in several editorial roles including Editorial Director of Issue Media Group, Managing Editor of local news magazine Metromode, and Digital Editor at WDET 101.9 FM, Detroit's public radio station. Ignaczak came to journalism in 2013 after a 15-year career in urban planning, where she focused on environmental community planning in the government and nonprofit sectors. She grew up in the Detroit area and attended the University of Michigan, where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Natural Resource Ecology and Management.
