Biography

Oluwamayowa Tijani is a practising journalist, a multi award-winning public speaker, and a 2017 Chevening Scholar. He's a graduate of the University of Ibadan and the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos. He co-founded The Courtroom, an advocacy column breeding young writers and critical thinkers across Nigerian universities. In 2013, Junior Chamber International (JCI) named him the most outstanding student in Campus journalism at the University of Ibadan. In the same year, Tijani won the Nigerian Championship of Public Speaking (NCPS) in Abuja, and was certified a Competent Communicator by Toastmasters International in California, USA. In his capacity as a development journalist, Tijani worked with the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism. He was commended for his foray into economics of low-cost private education in Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos. In 2015, Tijani was one of the few journalists from across Africa, trained by the United Nations Millennium Campaign as media ambassadors for the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs). Within two years of joining TheCable, he was nominated for the 2016 PwC awards in SME and Tax reporting and ended up as first runner up in both categories. Tijani maintains a weekly column at TheCable, which further focuses on national development. He also attends and reports the World Bank and IMF Spring and Annual meetings in Washington DC. His works have been quoted by Intl Business Times, Bloomberg and BBC.
